The 10 best freelance t-shirt designers for hire in 2023

t shirt design contest

The 11th annual ASUCLA T-shirt Contest follows last year’s winning design of the late Powell Cat perched atop a stack of books, created by then-third-year English Student Linsey Montgomery. Custom printed t-shirts provide an opportunity for sponsors to gain exposure by printing their logo on your t-shirts. “Our club shirts are worn to games and in around town after games,” Says Sorrie. Local supporters love the idea of displaying their logo on the back of t-shirts and are willing to pay for logo placement, helping to offset the printing costs of these custom t-shirts.

Backyard Chicken Coop Our Easy Strong DIY Build

This is because hardware mesh is the fencing of choice to keep out predators. As we’ve mentioned before, chicken wire simply will not cut it; the holes are too large to keep out most ground-based predators. Hardware mesh is more expensive, though, so you can use chicken wire above three feet off the ground if necessary. The important thing for both entrances is to make sure they are accessible and can be closed securely to keep chickens in and predators out. For your hen entrance, you might consider adding the option to close it with hardware mesh instead of the wooden door to add ventilation in the warm months.

Low-Cost Rustic Chicken House

The coop’s design offers 20 square feet of interior space, a 40-square foot secure exterior run, a large access door, a nesting door, a hen door, and a run door. Modification options are integrated into the plans to allow for a more customized finish. In conclusion, free DIY chicken coop plans and ideas are an excellent way to provide your flock with a cozy and safe home. Our selection includes beginner-friendly DIY chicken coop plans for those new to the world of DIY and poultry. Detailed instructions and visual illustrations make assembly an easy task.

Before starting to build your chicken coop, you should prepare a list of all the tools required. It all starts with the right coop for your hens with step-by-step instructions for those ready to take the DIY chicken coop plunge. Then all you have to do is build a large enclosure and secure it with chicken wire and safe latches so no predators can get into your coop. But don’t forget the opening for the birds and one for you to clean the coop out. You have a very inexpensive and functional chicken coop.

The mainframe is built using pallets – quite a unique and quick way to build a coop. This coop is perfect for a small flock of urban chickens. It doesn’t take up much space, and it’s raised off the ground to allow them to roam underneath too.

It was definitely worth our time, money and effort, even years later. Find small chicken coop plans for small flocks without compromising on their comfort or larger chicken coop plans with added features for bigger hens. You can get plans for this sleek-looking chicken coop at backyardchickens, and they won’t leave you disappointed.

So I've started building this, but I realized a major flaw (at least for me). There is no ground-level gate or door for the chickens to walk in and out of. I'd like them to be able to free range in the yard at times and then "go home" at night. I may have to modify, but was curious why this was not included in your design...probably a good reason. You may have noticed we’ve mentioned hardware cloth or hardware mesh much more than chicken wire in this article.

A coop isn’t just a shelter, it’s a house where your chickens live. Just like a human’s house, the happiness and healthiness of your chickens highly influenced by the coop. The price depends on the size, material, styles, and other factors. The gable-roofed coop is of medium size and can house between chickens. It’s quite difficult and expensive to build, but its finish is high-quality and durable.

This feature keeps diggers like rats and foxes from getting access to the coop. A padlock should be used on every opening in your coop (e.g. entrance, nesting box, cleaning hatch) to keep all predators out. If you are in the market for a chicken coop plans that’s not small but not too big, you’ve probably realized they are kind of difficult to come by. Everybody wants a smaller coop for a few hens or a large coop for a big farm. This chicken coop — just like its name — is small and easy to set up. They even included 2-part videos explaining step by step on how to build it.

It has a hinged side wall that opens for easy cleaning and maintenance. It also has an easy to access nesting box door to make egg collection easy. It also has an enclosed run where the chickens can safely roam in. This design is a beginner level build and is fairly expensive to construct due to its high quality.

The Mulligan is a large chicken coop similar in looks to a little house. It has a set of double doors and is tall enough to stand in for easy cleaning and access. It also has large windows for plenty of airflow and light. It has an enclosed run where the chickens can roam without worry.

Bring a touch of the Wild West to your yard with these Rhode Island Red Eye Saloon chicken coop plans. The front of the coop, which is designed to look like an old saloon, features a full-size access door and two easily-accessible egg bins. To the rear of the nesting area is a spacious wire-enclosed space for chickens to run, play, and forage safely.

4 Inch Lifted Subaru Outback Wilderness: The ADF Wildebeest

anderson design and fabrication

I live roughly 3.5 hours from Pat but I have wanted to photograph their 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness since I first saw it on their Instagram. The car technically belongs to Cody Anderson who, as the name implies, is Patrick’s brother. It has been lifted an additional four inches over the factory one inch lift that the car came with.

Ground Clearance After The Lift

Paired with the 17 inch Method 314 wheels, they look great and give the car all the grip it could ever need on the trails. It took Patrick weeks to build this lift kit by hand, but I think the final product has been well worth it. Innovation and continuing to push the limits of the Subaru platform is what they seem to do best at ADF and this build further cements that reputation. However, if your vehicle is out of warranty or if you don’t mind the risk, a bigger CVT cooler is a great way to keep the temps lower after a bigger tire installation.

Explore More with Subaru Outback!

In order to do this, the 3 inch front subframe spacers, 2.25 inch carrier bearing spacers, and the 5 inch rear multilink spacers all help to achieve optimal angles. Check out the photos I took of the custom mounts and spacers Patrick built. One thing that I really like is how Patrick designed a long support bracket to tie in the front and back rear subframe spacers for additional structural integrity. When a vehicle gets lifted this high above stock, retaining rigidity around the various chassis components is important for proper handling and safety.

With the extra lighting, you can get a clear picture of any damage that may have occurred and see which parts need to be fixed without fumbling around with a flashlight. In recent years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and befriending Patrick. I’m regularly impressed by the technical innovation within his business and his relentless commitment to growing a brand that produces some of the strongest parts for offroad Subarus. ADF Rear Strut Spacers are designed to accommodate for varying loads or to level uneven vehicles. Failing to correct the driveline angles may result in vibration and premature u-joint failure.

Inch Lifted Subaru Outback: Fully Modified Anderson Design & Fabrication Offroad Build

Having ditch lights lets the driver see potential hazards on the side of the vehicle. Things like downed trees that could break out a window, or large rocks that might not be easily visible can be illuminated with a set of properly aimed ditch lights. And of course, these were mounted using a set of ADF ditch light brackets. Patrick designed a five inch spacer to replace the one inch version that came on the stock Outback Wilderness. You can see it tucked up against the unibody of the Subaru above the sway bar reinforcement brackets. The Method 314 wheels in 17×7.5 come with a 30mm offset and they opted to install a one inch spacer to help bring the wheels out even further.

This allows the CV axles and the front control arms to sit close to their intended angles without causing damage. In my opinion, and the opinion of many other enthusiasts, the biggest drawback with the current model Subarus for offroading is the CVT transmission. They’re very efficient and smooth but they don’t give as much room for driver input and don’t take well to prolonged “abuse” on the trails.

But with the OBWE being a wagon, there is a drone in the vehicle at certain RPM’s that makes it a little hard to use as a family car. Patrick plans to install their dual chamber muffler to quiet it down even more for daily driving comfort. You’ll also notice the grade 10 stainless steel bolts and powder coating that has been applied to the spacers. Since these components are in direct contact with the unibody, it’s important that they don’t rust and cause permanent damage to the car. Simply painting a spacer usually doesn’t prevent rust since it eventually wears off. The team over at ADF fitted the Outback with a set of Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro tires in a massive 265/65R17.

anderson design and fabrication

Patrick and his brother both mentioned how well the Patagonias ride on the streets without without sacrificing offroad grip. Safeguard your vehicle against unexpected damages, both on and off the open road. Be prepared for any adventure that may come your way, ready to embrace the unknown at a moment's notice.

Explore Without Limits: Adventure With Every Make and Model

At ADF, nestled in Estacada, Oregon, our expertise lies in crafting premium Subaru lift kits and accessories, designed to unleash the untapped off-road potential of your Subaru. Our team's rich background in Mechanical and Architectural Engineering, along with specialized knowledge in Subaru mechanics, fuels our commitment to innovation. We're constantly exploring new frontiers in product development, eager to bring our groundbreaking creations to Subaru enthusiasts around the world. In order to lift a Subaru correctly, the CV axles, control arms, driveline, and a slew of other components need to be kept within a certain margin of error compared to their stock location.

They also installed a set of Diode Dynamics rock lights in the wheel wells. While some people might install them just for looks, I actually really like being able to see where the obstacles are under my car when I’m in rock gardens or other rugged sections of the trail. Your spotter can also use rock lights to determine how to properly guide you through difficult segments without damaging your undercarriage. The result was awesome and turned out so well that they decided to start selling them. The large rally style lights up front are enough to see anywhere in the forest after dark. This can save you from accidentally driving into an unsafe portion of the trail. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Nameless is one of the premier Subaru performance parts manufacturers. Nameless is located in Woodland Washington, within a short driving distance of ADF, which made this collaboration even more easy.

Stay poised for the unexpected and open to the possibilities that each new journey brings.

This helps the car handle better with a wider track and adds an aggressive look. Every part that he built brings the car’s suspension and drivetrain angles back within factory spec. They have also been powder coated in a matching Wilderness Edition gold/bronze to protect them against corrosion that would eventually cause rust.

It’s an easy way to carry extra fuel on the trails, or safely store a shovel out of the main cabin. But finding a good rack system that is low profile and doesn’t stand tall above the car can be a challenge. Taller roof racks can add to the drag which reduces fuel economy and some people simply dislike the appearance. Having proper lighting while on the trails not only looks cool, but it provides a necessary level of visibility for navigating technical spots. Patrick and Cody opted to use Diode Dynamics lights for the front light bar, ditch lights, and the rock lights in the wheel wells.

But if you’re willing to put in the time to do it right, the finished product is awesome. Once the front subframe is lowered correctly, the transmission and driveline also need to follow suit. Pat fabbed up a custom transmission mount support bracket to replace the factory one and to allow the CVT to sit lower. He then installed a carrier bearing spacer to let the drive shaft angles return to the correct position.

House votes for possible TikTok ban but app won't go away soon Los Angeles Times

College protesters want ‘amnesty.’ At stake: Tuition, legal charges, grades and graduation

TikTok has denied assertions that it could be used as a tool of the Chinese government and has said it has not shared U.S. user data with Chinese authorities. The bill’s quick path through Congress is extraordinary because it targets one company and because Congress has taken a hands-off approach to tech regulation for decades. Lawmakers had failed to act despite efforts to protect children online, safeguard users’ privacy and make companies more liable for content posted on their platforms, among other measures. But the TikTok ban reflects widespread concerns from lawmakers about China.

kaldis social house

For some, TikTok is a path to riches and the American dream. With a ban, it could all disappear

Dozens of states and the federal government have put in place TikTok bans on government devices. Texas’ ban was challenged last year by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, which argued in a lawsuit that the policy was impeding academic freedom because it extended to public universities. After UMG pulled its catalog from the app and as political pressure - or even a domestic ban - threatens its viability, artists and their creative and business teams are pondering a world without it. Pacific Tavern opened in May 2010 and is located inside the Smith Hotel Brooklyn. Since then, Golden Spork winner Chef Lang has been serving both quality interpretations of classic dishes and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of food.

Questions swirl over the future of TikTok. Who could own it? How will the platform operate?

TikTok has lobbied hard against the legislation, pushing the app’s 170 million U.S. users — many of whom are young — to call Congress and voice opposition. But the ferocity of the pushback angered lawmakers on Capitol Hill, where there is broad concern about Chinese threats to the U.S. and where few members use the platform themselves. A standalone bill with a shorter, six-month selling deadline passed the House in March by an overwhelming bipartisan vote as Democrats and Republicans voiced national security concerns about the app’s owner, the Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd.

In 2020, federal courts blocked an executive order issued by then-President Trump to ban TikTok after the company sued on the grounds that the order violated free speech and due process rights. His administration brokered a deal that would have had U.S. corporations Oracle and Walmart take a large stake in TikTok. The sale never went through for a number of reasons; one was China, which imposed stricter export controls on its technology providers. The House’s overwhelming vote to ban TikTok unless it is freed from Chinese control suggests that a ban might be coming soon. The company has indicated that it would likely go to court to try to block the law if it passes, arguing it would deprive the app’s millions of users of their 1st Amendment rights.

Kaldis Social House has a simple philosophy… when it comes to coffee, only sourcing the best from counter culture coffee roaster. We stock teas from Harney and Sons, our juices are freshly squeezed upon order. Located just off Georgia Avenue, Kaldi’s has large windows, with a glass door Inside, the lighting is muted, and the concrete floors are complimented by oversized leather chairs and wooden tables. It feels like one spacious living room, with a long coffee bar in the center of the space like a hearth. Nadya Okamoto, a content creator who has roughly 4 million followers on TikTok, said she has been having conversations with other creators who are experiencing “so much anger and anxiety” about the bill and how it’s going to affect their lives. The 26-year-old, whose company, August, sells menstrual products and is known for her advocacy around destigmatizing menstrual periods, makes most of her income from TikTok.

Since mid-March, TikTok has spent $5 million on TV ads opposing the legislation, according to AdImpact, an advertising tracking firm. The ads have included a diverse group of content creators, including a nun, extolling the positive impacts of the platform on their lives and arguing a ban would trample on the 1st Amendment. The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. The company has good reason to think a legal challenge could be successful, having seen some success in previous legal fights over its operations in the U.S. In November, a federal judge blocked a Montana law that would ban TikTok use across the state after the company and five content creators who use the platform sued. Members of both parties, along with intelligence officials, have worried that Chinese authorities could force ByteDance to hand over American user data or direct the company to suppress or boost TikTok content favorable to its interests.

The U.S. government has not publicly provided evidence that shows TikTok shared U.S. user data with the Chinese government or tinkered with the company’s popular algorithm, which influences what Americans see. Fact Sheet: Ballistic vs Cruise Missiles

what are cruise missiles

The Tomahawk is designed to operate at very low altitudes while maintaining high-subsonic speeds. Its modular design enables the integration of numerous types of warheads, guidance and control systems. The US Navy will use the upgraded Tomahawk cruise missiles beyond 2040. Raytheon was contracted to integrate the upgraded navigation and communication systems into the Block IV Tactical Tomahawk (TACTOM) missile in March 2020. Infrared (IR) guidance presents yet another terminal phase technique, steering missiles toward heat-emitting sources like engines. Despite its efficacy, IR guidance’s simplicity renders it incapable of distinguishing between friendly, adversarial, or extraneous IR signals in crowded battlefields.

The Simple Difference Between Ballistic Missiles and Cruise Missiles

Tomahawks can also use their onboard cameras to transmit battle-damage assessment data back to military analysts. Several publications, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and the Wall Street Journal expect the U.S. to use cruise missiles if the Obama administration does order strikes. Anonymous senior U.S. officials told NBC that a three-day cruise missile barrage against the Assad regime is possible. Yesterday, President Obama said he had not made a decision on whether to intervene in Syria. Since then, cruise missile guidance systems have improved, but the overall limitations of the weapon system remain. The war in Ukraine will likely impart lessons on the next generation of cruise missiles, but the platform isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Propulsion and Flight

Even though cruise missiles are cheaper, more mobile, and more versatile, ballistic missiles are among the most feared armaments in existence. No nation has launched an ICBM as an act of war against another nation, although some nations have tested these missiles during training exercises. According to one definition, a sub-orbital space flight reaches an altitude greater than 100 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. At this altitude, known as the Kármán line, once the fuel runs out, the missile’s direction cannot be altered; it follows a path based on the speed of its launch and the force of gravity attempting to pull it back to the Earth’s surface. Gravity eventually guides the missile and its payload toward its intended target, which could be a chemical or biological weapon or a nuclear device.

T-38 Talon: a chapter that closes in the history of military…

The US Navy awarded a $251m contract to Raytheon for the production and delivery of Tomahawk Block IV missiles for both the US Navy and Royal Navy in September 2014. Raytheon was awarded a $207m-worth firm-fixed-price contract in March 2009 for 207 Tomahawk Block IV All-Up-Round (AUR) missiles. The Block IV Tomahawk missile is outfitted with advanced electronic support measure (ESM) seeker in Block IV Tomahawk missile. Its joint multi-effects warhead enables the commander to control the blast. The Digital Scene Matching Area Correlation (DSMAC) system or GPS provide terminal guidance.

Cruise Missiles Rise To Top Of U.S. Weapons Agenda

The US signed a foreign military sales (FMS) agreement with the UK in 1995 to supply 65 Tomahawks for use with the Royal Navy nuclear submarines. It can be armed with a nuclear or unitary warhead or a conventional submunitions dispenser with combined-effect bomblets. The Tomahawk Block IV missiles were converted and upgraded to Block V in 2017. The upgraded Tomahawk includes extended range, enhanced navigation and communication systems and modernised data-link radio.

In October 2017, Russia began cruise missile strikes against so-called terrorist targets in Syria. These Novator 3M14 Kalibr cruise missiles are very similar to Tomahawk missiles, but use Russia’s GLONASS satellite navigation system, an alternative to the American GPS. Early Tomahawk cruise missiles followed a pre-programmed flight path to target using a system called terrain contour matching (TERCOM). In TERCOM, a radar altimeter scans the terrain below the missile, then compares it to a terrain elevation map stored in its onboard computer brain.

Will South Korea launch spy satellite to monitor North Korea?

The Tomahawk sea-launched cruise missile (SLCM) and the Tomahawk ground-launched cruise missile (GLCM) had a length of 6.4 m (21 feet), a diameter of 53 cm (21 inches), and a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles). Although the consensus is that Tomahawks are a highly successful weapon, these weapons have several limitations. One of these is that their flight paths are relatively predictable, which is a function of the fact that some terrain, notably deserts, provides relatively few features for terrain following guidance. A second problem is that mission planning for terrain following guidance systems is more time consuming and complicated in terms of intelligence requirements than one might expect. For example, to use Tomahawks a unit would have to request a targeting package from such agencies as the Defense Mapping Agency to gather the data necessary for a mission. A third limitation was that Tomahawks could not be used against hardened targets because the 1,000 pound warhead, the weapon’s accuracy, and its final kinetic energy when it hits the target do not produce high probabilities of kill.

The US Government approved an agreement in 2003 to deliver 65 Tomahawk Block IV missiles for the UK. In August 2004, the US Navy placed a $1.6bn multi-year procurement contract with Raytheon for 2,200 Tomahawk Block IV missiles.

But China’s losses were far greater, and more important to the war’s outcome. Nearly 140 Chinese ships sank to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, including most of the transport ships hauling and supplying the invasion force. While American submarines accounted for many of the sinkings, it’s the bombers—USAF B-1s, B-2s and B-52s armed with JASSM-ERs and flying from bases well outside the range of Chinese missiles—that inflicted the most destruction. As technology advances, the horizon holds promises of more intelligent, self-managing, and hypersonic cruise missiles entering the global market.

Some cruise missiles can only fly at extremely high altitudes, and then they descend steeply once they’ve reached their destination. Higher-altitude flight uses less fuel than lower-altitude flight, allowing the missile to travel further. Unfortunately, modern radars and sensors are often set up to identify and track threats at high altitudes, making the missile more vulnerable to missile defense systems. According to the Federation of American Scientists, a ballistic missile is one that has a ballistic trajectory over most of its flight path.

The Taiwanese air force and navy blinked out of existence amid powerful Chinese rocket barrages. The Americans lost two aircraft carriers, several other warships and submarines and nearly 300 aircraft. The 4,000th Tomahawk Block IV missile was delivered to the US Navy in August 2017. The US Navy warships and submarines launched 66 GPS-enabled Tomahawk missiles at Syrian chemical weapon facilities in 2018. According to Wikipedia, short-range ballistic missiles stay within the Earth’s atmosphere, while intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) are launched on a sub-orbital trajectory. In 1993, Kuwaiti authorities foiled a plot by Iraqi Intelligence services to assassinate former President George H.W. Bush.

During this phase, which can last for less than a minute, strategic warheads can be traveling at speeds greater than 3,200 kilometers per hour (1,988 miles per hour). Once it is close to the target, the missile switches to a "terminal guidance system" to choose the point of impact. The point of impact could be pre-programmed by the GPS or Tercom system.

There were no casualties and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif defended the missile strike on the U.S. bases in Iraq, saying it was an act of "self-defense." In the Soviet Union, Sergei Korolev headed the GIRD-06 cruise missile project from 1932 to 1939, which used a rocket-powered boost-glide bomb design. The 06/III (RP-216) and 06/IV (RP-212) contained gyroscopic guidance systems.[5] The vehicle was designed to boost to 28 km altitude and glide a distance of 280 km, but test flights in 1934 and 1936 only reached an altitude of 500 meters. Meanwhile, new versions of the Lockheed Martin AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and the Tomahawk missiles are set to enter production. Finally, a new class of air vehicle that blurs the line between a cruise missile and an unmanned aircraft system is gaining traction. Compared to China, Taiwan is tiny, less wealthy on a national level and isolated.

They can be launched from ground, airplane, and sea platforms like submarines and surface warships. Three main versions of the cruise missile were being manufactured in the United States during the mid-1980s. All were single-stage, turbofan jet-propelled missiles with a cruising speed of 885 km per hour (550 miles per hour) and weighed from 1,200 to 1,800 kg (2,700 to 3,900 pounds) each. The missiles were guided by an inertial navigation system that was updated during flight by a technique called Tercom (terrain contour matching), using contour maps stored in the system’s computerized memory. The air-launched cruise missile (ALCM) had a length of 6.3 m (20.7 feet); it attained a range of 2,500 km (1,500 miles).

There is no direct public transit between Fort Lauderdale's airport and Port Everglades, but there are airport shuttles to Port Everglades. The port’s enviable location in the heart of South Florida and the neighboring Caribbean makes it one of the three busiest cruise homeports in the world. Port Everglades generates more than $33 billion worth of business activity annually and supports over 9,500 direct local jobs and nearly 216,600 statewide jobs. Our roadmap for future growth to improve productivity for the port’s cargo, cruise and energy sectors. In August 2016, the port signed with Carnival Corporation an extension to their agreement to the year 2030. The renovation and extension allow the handling of larger-sized (including Carnival's newest) vessels. As part of the addendum, Carnival Corporation receives preferential berthing at Terminal 4. Northport Terminal 4 was reopened in 2015 following a USD 24 million renovation and modernization project for greater efficiency and passenger convenience. Port Everglades's address is "1850 Eller Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316". Cruise tourists usually arrive via flights to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport but also to MIA-Miami Airport (approx 29 mi / 47 km from Port Everglades).

There is usually an expedited line,  and staff with wheelchairs if assistance is needed getting from the terminal to the ship. From shuttle to ship, the whole process took about 10 minutes. Enjoy a seamless embarkation process before setting sail to your desired destination. Enjoy a post-cruise or pre-cruise stay in one of the many Fort Lauderdale hotels before or after your vacation. Stay at resort-like Port Everglades hotels near the terminals because the options are plentiful. Our favorite brand of hotels is Marriott because they offer the best perks for loyalty, including room upgrades depending on your loyalty level and free wi-fi for all Marriott Bonvoy guests.

Options include the Crowne Plaza Hotel Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise, Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport North, and Ramada by Wyndham Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port. Las Olas BeachFort Lauderdale’s beaches are some of the nicest in the world, and the heart of the beach is Las Olas. Just north of the port, it’s a large, wide white-sand beach with lots of facilities and lined with restaurants and shops. Even if you don’t go to the beach, it’s a good idea to at least take a stroll on the waterfront to get a feel for what Fort Lauderdale has to offer.

Things to Do Near the Port

Depending on your travel needs and budget, there are four airports you can choose from when planning your cruise from Fort Lauderdale. Alternatively, you can use Uber or Lyft to get to the cruise port. Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (code FLL) are in close proximity to one another; they are less than 4 miles apart. The short drive is approximately ten minutes between the two. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Here are some of our favorite places to stay before after a cruise. No matter which airport you pick, you can leverage airline programs to save money on airfare. Two airlines -- Alaska and Delta -- offer companion certificates as perks of their cobranded credit cards. Get the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card and receive a companion certificate on the card's anniversary. The certificate allows a companion to fly with you for $121 ($99 fare and the cost of taxes from $22). And, several Delta credit cards offer a similar companion certificate.

Given the location right next to Terminal 18, there’s also a good chance that one of the world’s largest cruise ships will be right next to your ship on cruise day. Cruise lines often provide port transfers between airports and hotels, and hotels and cruise ports. Be sure to inquire with your cruise line to see if this is an option.

Unwind in one of the newly renovated rooms or suites, many of which have private balconies with water views. Swim in the lagoon-style outdoor pool, enjoy jet skiing and snorkeling, the fitness center with beachfront views, or treat yourself to the opulent spa. We will also share what cruise lines leave from Port Everglades and how to find last-minute Fort Lauderdale cruise port deals. Fort Lauderdale is a vibrant vacation destination on its own, but it's also one of the easiest home ports for embarking on a cruise. Port Everglades is so close to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport; it's a breeze to make your way from your flight to ship. Check out upcoming cruise itineraries and see if it's the right embarkation port for you.

In general the estimated fares are higher than you’ll find with Uber and Lyft. Here are the estimated fares from points around the area. Another perk of staying here is that it's within walking distance of several restaurants and cafes, including Einstein Bagels, a personal favorite spot for breakfast, coffee, and lunch. You're in luck if you want to view a live camera feed of ships in port in Fort Lauderdale, industrial and recreational. Lester's Diner (250 FL-84), just 10 mins from Port Everglades, is another favorite spot for all-day and all-night dining. It's been in business for more than 40 years and is a terrific place for a quintessential diner breakfast.

We love shopping along this 2.5-mile avenue that stretches from downtown Fort Lauderdale to the ocean. It's the city's premier shopping venue and the ideal place to stroll and people-watch. If you're looking for somewhere to eat, you'll find a plethora of options here, including Greek, Peruvian, French, Italian, Mexican, Asian, Kosher and more. There are plenty of things to see and do when in Fort Lauderdale.

There is a security checkpoint at each entrance where you will need to show your ID and cruise tickets. Check the large digital signs as you enter the port to see which terminal at which your ship is docked. This site focuses on small-format cruises and ship-within-a-ship concepts on large cruise ships, including special cruise experiences you can enjoy during your next vacation.

It will cost less, and you won't need to wait around as the cruise line fills the bus with passengers. The northern part of Port Everglades is called Northport (with terminals 2 and 4). The cruise port's central area is called Midport (terminals 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, 29).

If you are assigned a check-in time, then you should aim to arrive at that time. If you’re a cruise passenger, it doesn’t get any easier than letting someone else worry about the driving and simply being dropped off or picked up after your cruise. Cabs are abundant all throughout South Florida to get you to Port Everglades.

Call one of the three Bayonne taxi cab companies to drive you to the cruise port, which is about three miles east of Kennedy Boulevard. Call one of the three Bayonne taxi cab companies to drive you to the cruise port, which is about two miles east of the Light Rail line. Broward County Transit operates commuter buses in the city, including the Number 40 bus linking Port Everglades with downtown.

Drive across the bridge and follow signs to your pier terminal. Port Everglades is one of the top cruise ports in the world. Further afield, Westfield Broward in Plantation is within a 20-minute drive west of Port Everglades. The sprawling shopping center has over 80 shops and restaurants as well as a 12-screen ci. Situated next to the convention center, Terminal 4 was renovated in 2015 and serves mainly Carnival Cruise Line ships.

Taxis generally cost between $15 and $20 each way between the airport and port, while ridesharing services are slightly cheaper with fares between $10 and $15. Fort Lauderdale has a big advantage over many other cruise ports in that it’s literally just a few minutes from the airport. If you are flying from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, you can get from the cruise port to the airport in 10 minutes. If you are flying from Miami, however, expect the ride to take at least 45 minutes, and upwards of an hour in heavy traffic. Once inside the port, you’ll want to follow the signage to the appropriate cruise terminal for the ship. Keep in mind that there are a number of twists and turns in order to get around with so many terminals in a relatively small space.

What is it like Cruising to Alaska in October? Prof Cruise, Ship Tour, Cruise Vacation, Cruise Travel, Cruise Menus

alaska cruise october 2023

Feed your hunger for adventure on a roundtrip Alaska cruise from Vancouver, B.C. Wind your way through fjords, by bright-green forests and through quaint Gold Rush-era towns on your way to the wonders of Glacier Bay National Park. Alaska is a special place to cruise because it’s very different from standard tropical cruise destinations. Cruises to Alaska don’t occur during the months of January, February, March, November and December. The dark and cold winters are not ideal for cruises because travelers aren’t able to enjoy the wonders of the state of Alaska. Weather in Alaska in August may keep some cruisers away, but there are still many excursions and experiences to enjoy.

Embark on an unforgettable Alaskan cruise adventure departing from Juneau in October 2023. Juneau is situated in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the United States. From here, you can set sail and explore the wonders of Alaska, including pristine wilderness, majestic glaciers, and unique wildlife. October marks the end of the Alaskan cruise season, with the arrival of colder temperatures and the start of winter.

Visiting Scenic Restaurants in Alaska

Revel in the beauty of Mother Nature’s masterpiece and listen closely as the scenery whispers secrets of times long ago during your cruise to Alaska. On dry land, bears are more common in May, though not as frequently spotted as they are in peak summer. Temperatures are relatively mild, with daytime highs in the upper 40s and into the 50s depending on where you're visiting and cloud cover. Discover the top tips for planning a cruise to Alaska and uncover the best times of the year to spot Alaskas wildlife, locate must-see attractions, find Alaskan cruise deals and more. Embark on an unforgettable Alaska adventure cruise and experience the ultimate vacation. Immerse yourself in the thrilling destinations that Alaska has to offer, each brimming with its own unique style and vibe.

Skagway, Alaska

Please trust me and adjust your travel plans to make it an unforgettable trip for all the good experiences you have on an Alaska summer cruise (not any of the potentially/inevitable bad ones you might have on an end of season cruise). Extend your Alaska cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. With a Cruise Plus Hotel Package, a Princess representative meets you at the airport and pier, transporting you to and from your hotel. The package includes the cost of your hotel stay, transportation, luggage handling and the services of the representative. The best time to see salmon spawning on an Alaskan cruise is typically between mid-July and mid-September.

This means that cruising during the summer is a very popular – and pricey – activity, and will probably give you some sticker shock even if you find a good deal. However, they start making their way back to warmer waters from late September to early October, so you’ll see far fewer whales on an October cruise (you may still see some though – I did). Anyway, last year I decided to hop on the very last Alaska cruise of the season in late October to experience what it’s like to cruise to Alaska so late into the fall (my prior latest season cruise was in September).

The major operators—Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, are all premium-tier cruise lines, but the luxury cruise lines have also deployed ships to Alaskan waters. It’s worth noting that shoreside transportation outside of cruise line-operated transfers can be more limited in Whittier, so passengers embarking there may wish to ensure they include transfers from Anchorage in their cruise package. From Seward, travelers wanting to spend a few days exploring Kenai Fjords National Park or one of the wilderness lodges can book Alaska Railroad transfers on their regular scheduled service. Whittier is closer to Anchorage, and some itineraries even take disembarking passengers directly to Denali or Talkeetna the same day. Whittier is also a convenient port for cruising College Fjord, which most northbound sailings do on the final day before arriving in Whittier. Whittier is, however, a tiny community that is little more than a deep-water port, while Seward is a larger community and regional base for a more diverse collection of tours and activities.

Dive Into Alaska Traditions on Your Next Cruise Royal Caribbean Cruises

Sail into the Last Frontier from Seward or Vancouver onboard Radiance of the Seas®. With over three acres of windows and glass exterior viewing elevators, you can watch for whales along Alaska’s Inside Passage when you aren’t wandering wilderness paths from Ketchikan to Juneau. And for the ultimate outdoor adventure, take a CruiseTour into Alaska’s interior where you can hang with huskies in Denali, and scale glaciers in Alyeska. Adventuring in Alaska is all about getting to know this state's stunning landscape. It might seem cold and unforgiving at first glance, but the best Alaska cruises allow you to explore the quiet lakes, imposing glaciers and breathtaking mountain views, you'll have only warm impressions of this wilderness. Don’t just see the Great Land’s glaciers, feel them come alive on an Alaska cruisetour.

alaska cruise october 2023

In addition to the outdoor activities, October offers the chance to experience the local cuisine and indulge in hearty dishes such as stews, soups, and roasted meats. Visitors can also attend festivals and events celebrating the local culture, such as the Alaska Day Festival, which commemorates the purchase of Alaska from Russia. However, it is important to note that some attractions and activities may be closed or limited during this time, and weather conditions can be unpredictable. Visitors should come prepared with warm clothing and be flexible with their itinerary. Silversea has “Door-to-Door” pricing on many of its Alaska cruises, meaning the cruise fare includes airfare, hotels, and all transfers—including transfers from home to the departure airport. Onboard the all-suite ships, there’s butler service in every suite, fine dining, and select shore excursions included.

WHERE ARE THE WHALES AT?

On the banks of the Chena River lies the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge®. With riverside dining and frontier décor, the Fairbanks Lodge is the perfect excuse to extend your Alaska cruise vacation and dive deeper into your surroundings. Cruise down the Chena River on a sternwheeler riverboat, pan for gold at Gold Dredge 8 or ride ATVs through surrounding forests underneath the midnight sun. With glass-domed railcars, our exclusive Direct-to-the-Wilderness® rail service takes you into the heart of Alaska without juggling multiple tickets or confusing transfers.

Denali National Park takes you out of the city altogether, into a wilderness full of spruce forests and snow-capped mountain peaks. Plan your romantic Alaskan cruise with our adventurer’s guide to discovering the coziest vacation spots and most scenic restaurants for couples traveling in Alaska. When planning a trip to Alaska, many travelers wonder if it's better to explore the state by land or by sea. Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. In this post, I’ll cover the basics of “end of season” Alaska cruises, to help you decide if the timing of these cruises will be right for you, given other considerations you might not be aware of with these itineraries.

Discover the wonders of Alaska with the Best Cruise Line for 20 years running. In the center of the state, Denali National Park is blanketed in wildflowers punctuated with mountains, raging rivers and serene lakes. Denali, "The Great One," formerly known as Mt. McKinley, rises to the tallest peak in North America and can be seen from as far away as Anchorage on a clear day. To illustrate how the weather differs at the end of the season compared with the peak season, I’ve pulled data using Juneau as a representative community for the entire Inside Passage.

During the cruise season, popular cruise lines assist travelers in enjoying all of the unique sights, wildlife, excursions, events and food. The Alaska cruise season is a little over six months long, but choosing the best time to cruise Alaska is surprisingly not that simple. Make the most of your cruise by keeping an eye out for pop-up sales that can save you even more money—you can even use those savings to indulge in a pre- or post-cruise tour. A trip to Alaska is at the top of many travelers’ bucket lists, and for good reason. Every Princess Alaska cruisetour takes you to Denali National Park so you can enjoy a land beloved by millions but only seen by the adventurous. With some of the most stunning wilderness in existence and famous wildlife, it’s part of the definitive experience of traveling to the Great Land’s wild interior.

Enjoy convenience and comfort from ship to train and then directly to your Princess Wilderness Lodge in the Denali-area. We’ve taken care of everything on your Alaska cruisetour, so you can spend less time worrying and more time exploring. Experience the breathtaking scenery of Banff National Park in the heart of the Rockies on our 14-night cruisetour with a 7-day Alaska cruise and luxury Rocky Mountaineer rail travel. With no roads connecting it to the rest of Alaska or North America, it is truly a protected destination. Founded as a gold mining town and now the state’s capital, Juneau has one foot in history and one in the future. Embark on a whale watching tour, or sail past Mendenhall Glacier on an Alaska cruise.

If you're on a budget, stick to interior rooms and look for the big cruise ships, which tend to have more inventory. If you want to spot herds of caribou, book an Alaska cruise that puts you in range of Denali National Park. And with salmon runs in full force, you can catch fishing bears in the southeast. You will find local asparagus on some menus in southeast towns later in the month, and fiddlehead season also begins in Alaska in May.

Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. From the sweeping mountains of Juneau to the fish-bearing seas of Ketchikan, discover our Alaska cruise ports and set sail into the adventures that await you. Travel back in time and pan for gold like a prospector during the Gold Rush. Snuggle sled dog puppies in the ship's Piazza, or see the Northern Lights in the planetarium.

Cruise Weddings: A Complete Guide to Getting Married on a Cruise Ship

We requested to have the chocolate covered strawberries and the cake delivered to our room. Even though it was October 28th, the ship was already decorated for Halloween. Just tell us your dream destination, wedding date and ceremony style, and we'll take it from there. We have a world of options — grand ceremonies in The Piazza, outdoor settings with an ocean backdrop — and packages at a value that beats land-based venues. On the other hand, if you want to plan a simple, stress-free wedding, it doesn't get much easier than this. Cruise weddings are ideal for couples who want a small event and love the one-stop shopping of having all the event details taken care of by the cruise line.

Celebrity Cruise Wedding Package Details:

First, not all captains are certified to legally officiate a wedding. Because you’ll be embarking on your built-in honeymoon along with your wedding, be sure to choose a ship and itinerary that distinctly suits your style. A notable exception is popular cruise line Viking Cruises, which does not offer cruise weddings. Cruise wedding couples can choose to hold their ceremony in a homeport like Seattle or Miami before departure. This gives them the ability to choose their own clergy and invite day guests onboard for the afternoon before setting sail.

Yet before you decide to get married on a cruise ship, you'll want to understand all the pros and cons. The most basic (and cheapest) package is Norwegian's Symbolic at Sea option, while a Harborside package allows couples to be married onboard at select ports of call. Packages are available in a wide range of ports in the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean and Bermuda. This package adds priority embarkation for the couple and their guests (if the wedding is on embarkation day). The cost of getting married on a cruise ship will vary depending on the port destination where you decide to tie the knot.

While many brides start planning their dream nuptials a year to 18 months in advance, don't jump the gun by planning land-based, post-cruise celebrations too early -- or ordering invitations, keepsakes with the wedding date, etc. Couples have been bumped from their wedding cruises -- because of full-ship charters after they booked -- forcing them to reschedule everything. If you want to get married at sea by the captain, you're limited to only a handful of cruise lines, due to legal limitations that are based on ships' countries of registry. On the "can officiate" list are Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises, whose ships are registered in Malta; Norwegian Cruise Line, through the Bahamas; and Princess Cruises and Cunard, with ships in Bermuda. We provided our own music so we had a sound technician present that played the songs through a speaker system.

Carnival cruise weddings appeal to younger couples thanks to the line's famous amenities and spirited, party-friendly atmosphere. A cruise wedding combines one of the most important days of your life with exciting travel destinations, plenty of entertainment and an array of things to eat, do and drink.

IT’S A CELEBRATION!

From what we've seen, most mainstream lines charge less than $6,000 for even the most expensive packages. There are options that cost even less, but there are also infinite extras that can be added to drive up the cost. Deciding where you and your guests are going to sleep and eat is super simple on a cruise.

Coolest Perk of a Cunard Cruise Wedding:

Therefore, it is important to plan travel plans around arriving at the port early. Imagine tying the knot under a palm tree on a Caribbean island or being married by a uniformed captain in the middle of the ocean. And cruise-ship weddings are necessarily small, meaning you don't have to worry who is going to drive Great Aunt Hilda to the wedding or how to get out of inviting all those uncouth second cousins. If you’re hosting a cruise wedding, it’s important to think about how you’ll be transporting your valuable items, such as your rings, attire, and more. When it comes to these items, it’s essential to have them close by at all times—do not check valuable items and do not showcase them out in the open.

If you’d prefer privacy on your wedding day, either choose a small cruise line or get married on land. You may not be the only bride on the boat, so be prepared to share the spotlight. We got married on land and had our honeymoon on Freedom of the Seas. Since we love cruising so much, we decided to celebrate our 10 year anniversary with a vow renewal on the ship we took our honeymoon on.

Packages include extra amenities when a minimum number of staterooms are booked for guests and you'll find cool in-port wedding offerings, including glacier ceremonies in Juneau. The line caters to a mature clientele, making it attractive to older couples looking to wed. Watch out for a la carte charges that can add up on Royal Caribbean. For instance, couples who want to plan a wedding less than 90 days from sailing pay a fee that varies based on the package chosen. Note, too, that wedding parties of more than 50 guests require an additional wedding coordinator for an additional fee.

The Celebrity Weddings program offers onboard ceremonies and destination weddings and are some of the most reasonably priced on this list for couples who don't necessarily need a huge list of bells and whistles. Shoreside weddings start at $1,895 and in-port weddings are pricier, including all of the same features plus roundtrip taxi transportation to the ceremony site for the couple. A legal marriage can’t be recognized in open seas, which are not under the jurisdiction of any country, unless the ship captain or officiant is also a justice of the peace, minister, or notary public. That means that most legal cruise weddings take place either onboard the ship in port or harborside, docked in a destination. Many cruise ships do have chapels, but some offer more scenic options like a ceremony out on deck. According to our pros, cruise weddings can work for a variety of different couples and styles.

This allows the cruising couple to register for shipside gifts like spa treatments, excursions, and onboard spending money. That being said, part of the fun of having a wedding on a cruise is the opportunity for you and your wedding guests to enjoy all of the perks of traveling with Celebrity Cruises. Not only can you celebrate your wedding together on board or at one of our many port destinations, but family and friends will also be able to enjoy fine dining, fun activities for the kids, and world-class entertainment during their trip. Getting married at sea offers all the romance you could imagine—the backdrop of the open ocean, the exotic port locations, the built-in honeymoon—it’s really no wonder so many couples choose to tie the knot at sea. If photos are your thing, a cruise ship wedding offers some of the world’s best and most creative backdrops, both on the ship and at port. You can hire a full photo team from the cruise ship, complete with edited and printed photos, or do it yourself.

That means if your luggage is lost or you forget your veil or bowtie at home, you won't be able to just run to the store to replace what you're missing. The answer is a resounding "Yes!" Cruise lines make it easy by offering a number of packages at varying price points, but there are still some things you should know. It’s not very common, but occasionally, a port call has to be canceled due to weather or time.
